The Critical Skills Employment Permit, explained for employers

The permit for highly skilled roles in short supply. No Labour Market Needs Test, and a faster route to staying in Ireland for the person you hire.

Checked against the official pages listed below on 25 September 2026.

Two ways a job qualifies

  • The occupation is on the Critical Skills Occupations List, paying at least €40,904 a year, and the person has a relevant degree or higher. For someone who graduated in the previous 12 months, at least €36,848.
  • Any occupation not on the Ineligible Occupations List paying over €68,911 a year.

No Labour Market Needs Test

Because the skills are identified as being in short supply, DETE does not require one.

Fee and length

  • €1,000.
  • The job offer must be for at least 2 years.
  • Holders can apply for family reunification straight away, and afterwards apply directly to the Department of Justice for a Stamp 4.

Is your role on the list?

Type it into our permit check. It shows DETE's wording for the role on both lists.
