The record

With 145 employment permits issued in 2026 alone, Ernst & Young sits 14th of 7,732 on the Department's list of Irish employers hiring from outside the EEA this year.

Since 2010 the count stands at 4,817 permits across 17 years. The high point was 2022, with 1,428. Recent years show a decline from the peak.

Month by month, Ernst & Young has taken permits in 9 of the 9 months on record for 2026. That is continuous hiring, not a one-off, with August the peak at 28.

What this tells you

Hiring abroad is part of the plan here

At this scale, recruiting from outside the EEA is a deliberate strand of how Ernst & Young staffs itself, not a stopgap. That usually means structured onboarding and colleagues who have made the same move.

How to approach them

Apply like a local candidate

Check Ernst & Young's own careers page and the job boards, apply with an Irish-style CV, and be clear in the first message that you would need an employment permit and that you know what that involves.

For candidates

What you need to work here

  • A job offer and a contract of employment signed by you and the employer before anything is submitted. Applications must reach the Department at least 12 weeks before the start date.
  • The right permit for the job. Most trades and driving roles go through a General Employment Permit, which is issued for 2 years and can be renewed. Roles on the Critical Skills list use a Critical Skills Employment Permit.
  • Pay at or above the minimum for the permit. For a General Employment Permit the Department currently lists it as generally EUR 36,605 a year, with lower figures for meat processing, horticulture, healthcare assistants and home support. Check the official figure for your role before you rely on it.
